Dirty Little Secrets :: RE: Fired For What ????

I might get fired. I have been written up once due to "bad attendance" , and was told one more screw up..and that is it, its over. Here is why I think its wrong. I only have bad attendance because management did not put my new availability for this school semester in the computer when I gave to them. I don't know what happened, turned it in weeks before the semester began, but just now (8 weeks into the semester) they put it in. On week 7, my new availability is showing up. However...I am still being scheduled during times that I am in class! I was written up for absences that I clearly explained were due to school. I had a few call outs from days I was sick/had car problems as well...but that was not the bulk of them. I doubt these idiots would have noticed, seeing as most of my coworkers call out a few times a month. I was late for work the same day they coached me, but they didn't mention that or have it listed on their golden attendance sheet. I wonder if I will get talked to when I come back again on Friday.

I Hate Working for Walmart :: An Introduction By Toyminator

Subject: An Introduction By Toyminator
Posted: 2010/03/09 - 04:28 (GMT -6)

At a place like Walmart, people show you who they really are. Oh, they put on a good show, tell the kids to behave and they'll get something good, the usual stuff.

But, oh, that never works.

As you may have guessed. I work at Walmart, in the toy department. There is a certain amount of truth to be learned from this position that I have not seen in any others. But that is what Walmart is really about, if you bother to pay attention.

Truth. Truth behind the people who come here, the people who work here. It is subjective, like anything else. For instance, the truth that a cashier will learn about a customer might be completely different than what a cart pusher might know.

However, this is my truth.

Parents will usually leave their bratty kids in the toy department, making me their de facto baby sitter. I get to watch them play with items that do not belong to them. I get to watch as they slap things right off the shelves, or sit on the shelves and ruin them. I get to hear scream their heads off for toys, then scream their heads off when they don't get them. They kick and scream, throw themselves on the floor, throw their drinks on the floor. I used to just sit there and take it- it's not my job to watch these morons, is it? In a way, it is. I have to clean up after them, make sure they don't hurt anyone, least of all themselves. These are children who have to suffer their parent's stubborn refusal to be a parent, who get whatever they want just so they would shut up. And they fully expect to get away with whatever they want in my department, because supposedly, there's nothing in the company policy that says I can do anything about it. I could ask them to please stop and if they wouldn't mind, could they put down the toy they're ripping apart?

Not likely.

And parents...they're no better. As I said, not even they can handle their children, and they leave it to me to do so. Or, my absolute, one-hundred percent favorite, "We're not buying right now, but you can look." That's right, jerkbeef, just dangle it in front of the little monster. I'm sure he'll begin to froth at the mouth in no time. It's a terrible circle, you see, one that turns parents into tyrants and children into rabid dogs.

I've started to fight back.

Subtly, at first. You see, there is no excuse for people acting stupid- well, not as stupid as they portray themselves to be in my store. No, there is something to be said for common sense, even though you

don't see it anymore. I started small- just staring at a kid I see ripping open a Transformers package just to throw it on the ground. Standing directly behind a kid when I see him throwing our inflatable balls at the ceiling tiles, knocking them down. That kid, I 'bumped' into so the tile would hit him square in the back. Another, I flipped out my cell phone and acted like I was taking pictures when I caught him opening the Lego packages and stealing the contents. Nevermind that my cell phone could not even hold a charge, nevermind take pictures. That was my favorite part: having his dad scream and yell at me. I showed him the lack of functionality of my phone. When he turned, I 'bumped' the kid, who fell down and had one heck of a jingling noise when he did. It did not go unnoticed by the security guy nearby either- not half an hour later, I saw them in the back of a police cruiser.

After that, I started fighting back a little less subtly, but only just. A kid that I caught speeding through the aisles on a mountain bike I waited until he got close enough, then I collided with him. Sure, he destroyed the entire Hot Wheels display, but it was completely, totally worth it. I threatened to sue him for injuries, and he took off running and he hasn't been back in the year since that happened.

Point is, people are always griping about how much of a nuisance we are as associates, but what many do not realize is that we are either A) doing what someone has ordered us to do or 2) doing what we've learned we've had to do to stop a destructive customer. Customers are the second most popular reason that we say we hate our jobs, they make our lives that much more difficult.

You wanna know what the most popular reasons we hate our jobs is? The people we work with.

There are no shortage of stupid rules, stupid regulations and stupid bosses that get in the way of us actually accomplishing something on a daily basis. Take, for instance, the Zone Check. This makes us have to make sure that every little thing in our department looks just perfect. The support manager comes around with a clipboard and inspects our department. If we pass, great. If not, we get into trouble, mostly verbal reprimand. This does have a nasty side effect: Those of us who have large departments (like myself) have to mostly ignore everything else around us just to get it done on time. There is no time for customer service, no time for working our flex areas, no time for the safety sweep. If we don't want to get reprimanded by the "Zone Police," we have to get it done.

Also of note are the Routines. These are just brand new, designed to make sure that we are "on task" and "productive". What this really is is just an excuse for us to waste the last five minutes of our shift making notes about what we did that was off the Routine list and checking everything off. If you are really lucky, you don't have to do both the Zone Check and the Routines.

But I'm not that lucky. I work the "closing" shift. I have to do both.

Which is another thing I've come to hate about my job. I work the 2pm-11pm shift. I get to deal with both the day managers and the night managers. Their agendas are never, EVER the same, either, so I often find myself having to complete wildly separate tasks for day crews and night crews. It's maddening, to say the least.

Well, I think I'm running low on word count, so I will leave you with all this. Later on, I think I'll post again, when I cool off. Talking about the job angers me to no end...but more on that later.

I understand you may not be able to accept having your hours cut back. Here is my question... If they were to cut your hours to accomodate your church attendance, who then would have to do your work? That doesn't make a single bit of since to me. They need to you to work on Sundays and won't allow you the time off to attend church because the work has to be done but they threaten to short you on hours because of it. That seems to be a contradiction all in itself. I worked for WM several years ago... During one shift in particular it was time for my break (WM is BAD about giving breaks and lunches). I informed my CSM that I was due for a break and she told me she "couldn't have me off the register because of being short staffed". I asked her if she prefer to be one extra person short for 15 mins or one extra person short forever. She had a little bit of common sense and allowed me to take my break.
_________________
"A word to the wise ain't necessary - it's the stupid ones that need the advice."--Bill Cosby

JustSayNo2WalMart, Listen very carefully and have your sister do EXACTLY what I say. Go to the prosecuting attorney's office and file charges of battery against everyone at walmart who touched your sister. Battery laws prevent people who are not law enforcement officers from touching your person. She also needs to have charges of false arrest and illegal detainment filed against all person's who held her captive against her will. The police who witnessed the security tapes can be subpoenaed to testify that the security tapes showed that she did not in fact steal anything.

After she has the people who work at walmart arrested and tried for the crimes they committed, she then needs to speak to a personal injury lawyer about suing both walmart and the police department for holding her as long as they did. If she did not commit a crime, and the police confirmed that she did not commit a crime, then the police should not have held her as long as they did trying to get her to cop to a crime she did not commit.

If the local prosecutor will not bring charges against those responsible, go to the states Attorney General on the grounds that a crime was committed against your sister and the local authorities will not take action. It will help if you look up the state code on what constitutes battery, false imprisonment, false arrest, and illegal detainment. Have this information with your when you go to the prosecutor's office so he does not try to blow you off.

The reason that walmart made the threat about still possibly taking this to the prosecutor in the future is most likely to scare your sister out of taking action against them. Once they saw the tapes support her innocence, they had to do something to scare her into inaction. If they apologized, that would be an admission of guilt.

Your sister was the victim of at least two crimes and needs to act like one and take action against the criminals who perpetrated them.
_________________
A democracy is nothing more than mob rule, where fifty-one percent of the people may take away the rights of the other forty-nine.
Here is a good place to start. http://www.flemploymentlawblog.com/...discrimination/

You will note that the author says it is fairly simple for most companies to prove that accommodating your religion is an "undue hardship" I think in the case of walmart though, with the number of employees they have at every location, it would be a difficult task. So yeah, in the state of Florida, they have to accommodate.
_________________
A democracy is nothing more than mob rule, where fifty-one percent of the people may take away the rights of the other forty-nine.
Hi, Jen and welcome abroad. Glad to have you here. It is probably a good idea to have someone from the medical industry here in case someone experiences some trauma from spear throwing. You can just never tell when the stabbbing and jabbing might occur. So are you an ER nurse?
_________________
A democracy is nothing more than mob rule, where fifty-one percent of the people may take away the rights of the other forty-nine.
Oh, why did you have to bring this thread back to life again? I had to go and watch the video to refresh my mamory. After of couple of hours of that song stuck in my head I had to scrub it out with some AC/DC. I am much better now. mamory (Sorry, I was just reminded of Expartriot's avatar. Isn't it sexy? Glad to see the little guy win. I think if I were Mauer, I might consider a case against walmart for defaming his character in front of all those people. He did have the published policy in hand at the time and walmart has admitted guilt. It should be worth a lot more than a flat of blueberries and a gift certificate. Unless it is a $20,000 gift certificate.
_________________
A democracy is nothing more than mob rule, where fifty-one percent of the people may take away the rights of the other forty-nine.

Form a secret society that hunts down and "punishes" those caught leaving walmart stores, whether customer or employee. Make it look like a serial killer. Use careful planning for all of the attacks. Let it be known through the press that people who enter a walmart store will be punished for aiding the Great Satan. When people are afraid to shop or work there, then the problem will just naturally come to an end for lack of participation from the masses.

Or, you could just make sure you never contribute to the Great Satan's bottom line and not shop there and convince everyone you know to not shop there.
_________________
A democracy is nothing more than mob rule, where fifty-one percent of the people may take away the rights of the other forty-nine.
This evil company has devestated my town! Tonight is was issued that Walfart has bullied and won the right to tear down/ DESTROY our only mall! The mall was built in the 1970's and is a beautiful building consisting of brick, wood along with indirect lighting which gave it a warm and cozy feeling. We lost over 30 stores and now our quality of life is lower than ever before. ONE place to buy everything.......WALFART! Nobody wanted them to expand, many groups formed to stop this NAZI mentality company, and yet they won!
